In Memory of Wyatt

Wyatt

13 years ago I caught an escapee trying to make a break for it from Atlanta Animal Control. He was being chased by a big burly dude desperately trying to catch him before he busted out of the facility. I thwarted his escape. When I scooped the little trouble-maker off of the floor and into my arms I looked directly into his eyes, then looked at the exhausted kennel manager and said without skipping a beat, “This one is mine.” I looked at my new puppy and uttered the words, “I got you, buddy. I’m here now.” Fast-forward thirteen years, and those were the last words my faithful mutt heard when he crossed the rainbow bridge. Wyatt gave me 13 years of an unforgettable life. I can never repay him for what he did for me. He changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. He gave me 13 incredible years, and I wouldn’t trade one second of it (not even the times he woke me up at 2 in the morning because of a thunderstorm). I cherish every moment I had with my mutt. He made me into a better person, and the stubborn and determined fool will be missed so very deeply. We had a heck of a ride. Thanks for the memories, homie. You were one-of-a-kind. Thank you for bringing out the best in me. You were loved more than you could ever know. And you will be missed.
