Meet the Dream Land Family

Kevin and Gina Marcy are the owners and founders of Dream Land Pet Memorial Center.  Kevin is a 5th generation licensed funeral director who has spent most of his life working in or around funeral service.  In fact, his father and sister still operate the family funeral home, Marcy Funeral Home, located in Ohio.  Kevin’s Great Great Grandfather started the funeral home in 1868 and it is still one of the oldest established funeral homes in Ohio.

After college in the 1980’s, Kevin moved to Georgia and attended mortuary school.  Following graduation, he worked in the funeral industry in Cobb County, Georgia, eventually becoming General Manager of Georgia’s market leading cremation society.

Kevin is very involved with many local animal rescue organizations and foundations.  He has also been very active in coaching youth and high school baseball, playing drums and percussion in his church praise band and was Volunteer of the Month with the Make-A-Wish foundation in the past.

Gina (Adams) Marcy was raised in Acworth, GA and has lived in the area all of her life.  She is a graduate of Kennesaw State and has worked in finance since the 1980’s.  Currently, she is the payroll manager for PRG Schultz.  Gina enjoys watching her sons play sports, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Kevin and Gina are the parents of two teenage boys, Wade and Reed, along with their dog Sissy.  Both boys are active in sports, love music, and also help Dad in the business whenever possible.

Jane Michiels, Kevin’s mother, has also spent many years in or around funeral service and is the Dream Land office manager.  Jane is active in her church choir and has been a vocalist most of her life.  She and her “furry son” Hershey and the house kitty, Little Bit, will greet you when you visit Dream Land Memorial Center.

Matthew Hopkins and fiancé Katie Lafont, along with furry son Broc, are valuable members of our staff.  Matt is our crematory manager and our lead family service arranger.  He grew up in Kennesaw, and played baseball at North Cobb High School; Young Harris College; and Kennesaw State University.  Katie, a McEachern High School graduate, works part-time in our business office while she attends Kennesaw State and works full-time at The Goddard School, in Marietta, GA.

Stephen Spiers (not pictured) is a Certified Crematory Technician.  Stephen joined us in April of 2009 and primarily works in our crematory making sure that all pet cremations follow proper guidelines and procedures.  Stephen was born and raised in Woodstock, GA and graduated from Etowah High School.  After High School Stephen attended Atlanta College of Arts where he studied art history.   Before coming to Dream Land, Stephen worked at a local vet clinic and animal shelter.    Stephen has a daughter Izabella and is an accomplished artist.

Kyla Nelson (Not Pictured) is our resident grief support facilitator.  Kyla has been in grief ministry for several years and currently serves as facilitator for the Grief Share Ministry at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.  She has also served in a leadership role with Happy Tails Pet Therapy in Atlanta. In her ten years with Happy Tails, she has visited hundreds of senior citizens and special needs children, spreading joy and unconditional love with the help of her two Irish Wheaten Terriers.  Tragically, Kyla lost both of her furry children in 2008 to illness.  She lives in Woodstock with her husband Robin, and son Chris.
